Intelligent Enterprise published this month a good article about ETL, called Should You Use An ETL Tool?, by Joy Mundy, from Kimball Group, where she mentioned the main advantages and disadvantages of use ETL tools.
In Intelligent Enterprise too, have another older article from people of Kimball Group, called Slowly Changing Dimensions Are Not Always as Easy as 1, 2, 3, by Margy Ross and Ralph Kimball. They explain the three techniques for Slowly Changing Dimensions and hybrid approaches to support sophisticated change tracking.
For those interested in ETL techiniques, there is an excellent book by Ralph Kimball and Joe Caserta, from Kimball Group, entitled The Data Warehouse ETL Tool Kit.
