Yahoo! Meme: The new social networking of Yahoo

Yahoo! launched recently an Alpha version of a social networking called Yahoo Meme.

The definition of Meme, according the Wikipedia:
"A meme is a postulated unit or element of cultural ideas, symbols or practices that gets transmitted from one mind to another through speech, gestures, rituals, or other imitable phenomena.

Richard Dawkins first introduced the word in The Selfish Gene (1976) to discuss evolutionary principles in explaining the spread of ideas and cultural phenomena. He gave as examples melodies, catch-phrases, and beliefs (notably religious belief), clothing/fashion, and the technology of building arches."

Yahoo! Meme's login page:

I received an invitation to test its Alpha version. Yahoo Meme is a social network, a kind of mixture of Twitter and Tumblr, but with some different features, you can publish texts (around 2.400 characters, more than the 140 characters of Twitter), pictures (link and upload), videos (link) and music (link). You can repost a post of other user with your comment. You can follow others users, and you can see what users that you are following published, in your timeline. I think the Yahoo's idea was to build a kind of Twitter multimedia.

The interface is simple and clean, intuitive, easy to use. The search still is limited. At present, the Meme only accepts videos from You Tube. Meme is a good tool to publish multimedia content, but it isn't good for conversation, at least for now.

You can make suggestions for improvements and also point out errors using a feedback link. Yahoo's Development Team is fixing bugs and providing new features quickly. The Yahoo Meme still is incomplete, and the Yahoo needs to develop some features to Meme works well.

Yahoo! Meme's Timeline:

I think Yahoo was developing the Meme and had to launch quickly due to the rapid growth of Twitter, and Yahoo is fixing bugs and implementing new features "on the fly".

The Yahoo Meme has been developed by the Yahoo Brazil’s Development Team, and only available in Portuguese Version.

I believe the Yahoo’s intention is test the Alpha version of Meme in Brazil, and after to fix the bugs and to implement new features, to launch the Beta version to the rest of world.
